BIRTH specific questions:
What is the responsibility of your organisation within the Project.

As a technical partner Noterik Multimedia will design, implement and host the BIRTH application, working closely together with the JOANNEUM RESEARCH institute and other BIRTH partners. We will bring in our expertise in the area of digital media, including authoring, management, retrieval and personalisation of rich media. For development purposes we will use the StreamEdit application (http:/www.streamedit.com), our propriety software environment for developing digital media portals and archives. We will be working on issues such as rich media retrieval, personalisation and delivery and on interfacing, rights clearance, exchange and delivery of archived media which are distributed over a number of streaming servers

Description of organisation:
Noterik Multimedia develops Internet based software solutions. The company is organised into three units, 1) Streaming, 2) Healthcare and 3) Communications. The streaming unit develops software solutions to archive, manage and deliver digital media. Noterik collaborates with a variety of scientific institutes in the field of multimedia workflow optimisation, including TNO, University of Amsterdam and SURFnet. The web based management and retrieval applications are based on open standard metadata and communication protocols, such as the Dublin Core, SMIL and SOAP standards. The solutions in the field of digital media support both propriety (Real, Windows Media, Quicktime) and open multimedia formats (Mpeg-2, Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-4).

The Healthcare unit develops content management systems (HCS), customised for healthcare organisations. These systems include new content syndication and interactive communication modules which enable organisations to collaborate more easily and optimise communication with there clients via the Internet.

The communication unit supplies generic ICT consultancy and production services to a variety of organisartions in and outside The Netherlands. Noterik is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
