BIRTH specific questions:
What is the responsibility of your organisation within the Project. JOANNEUM RESEARCH has a twofold role in the project. On the one hand we are responsible for the overall project co-ordination on the other hand we act as a technology provider. From a co-ordination point of view we are guiding and monitoring the project, providing communication means (an internal Web-site and mailing lists). In addition to that we are the link to the European Commission which partially funds the project. Technology wise we will bring in our knowledge in the area of Digital Media. Here we have an extensive knowledge in analysis of visual information e.g. summarization of video content or content based search and retrieval. Further on we will bring in our tools for distributed search of legacy databases (OPACs) and web-based information systems. All this technology will be integrated in BIRTH web-site for the presentation of Europeans TV-history.
